Competition won ! Rehabilitation and extension of Joseph-Moynat Stadium in Thonon-les-Bains, France

01.26 / Competition

The project aims to transform an aging facility into a contemporary, adaptable stadium fully rooted in its territory and environment. Lowering the pitch by 2.5 meters recenters the playing field, reduces noise disturbance, and refocuses the views. The landscape becomes a structuring element of the project, with two large vegetated embankments forming a protective setting. They strengthen the ecological continuities of the territory and anticipate the future stands.

The new main grandstand asserts the stadium’s identity through a woven timber canopy, light and perforated, filtering daylight. Its internal organization is intuitive: a lower concourse encircling the pitch, an intermediate terrace offering open views, and a rooftop that will eventually allow simultaneous views of the lake and the Alpine ranges.

Through this proposal, our team delivers a project that is both ambitious and respectful: a facility restrained in its architectural expression, rooted in its territory, open to its environment, and prepared for future developments. A stadium that does not seek merely to host matches, but to become a place for everyday life, gathering, and collective pride for Thonon-les-Bains.
