The renovation and partial roofing project aims to restore the site’s full evocative power: that of pools open to everyone, of direct contact with the sky and the horizon, of the shade of trees in the park… The existing structure is reinterpreted, its functional qualities and efficiency are restored. The new volumes are designed according to ecological and climatic principles: use of bio-based materials, thermal performance of the façades, use of solar energy, and more.

We have chosen a new, autonomous form that asserts its own identity while engaging in a dialogue with the site. The atmosphere of the new covered hall is defined by large glazing that creates a strong connection with the sky, and a roof with variable geometry that shapes a distinctive silhouette. We were keen to preserve the original qualities of the place: the relationship with the park, the openness to the horizon, the outdoor atmosphere. The continuity of use and ambiance of the Grugabad is maintained. The hall connects to the ground, rises to envelop the slide, and extends toward the landscaped solarium. Visible from the entrance, it asserts its presence along the access path and situates the site’s transformation within the urban space.

The project also continues the logic of the existing buildings and opens the site to the city. The entrance to the covered pool is visible through a courtyard designed as a cloister. It includes spaces for resting and waiting, bicycle parking, and a kiosk. The new “pavilion” develops over two levels: the lower level, connected to the natural ground, houses the reception; and the upper level has a direct connection to the pools. The changing rooms and showers are linked by two glazed walkways.

Finally, the outdoor spaces and the surroundings of the site have been entirely redesigned to create a generous and welcoming entrance: the forecourt becomes a central landmark for visitors. Historical elements and contemporary vocabulary combine to offer an atmosphere that is both faithful to the spirit of the place and decidedly modern.
