COMPETITION WON !
The team led by Marc Mimram Architecture and Engineering has been awarded the contract for the renovation and extension of a historic monument: the Grugabad swimming pool in Essen / Stadt Essen (Germany).
We are very pleased to have been selected for this emblematic project.
The tender process distinguishes two missions: the renovation and restructuring of the existing facilities on the one hand, and the conceptual study for covering one of the existing pools, in order to make it usable in all seasons.
This marks a new chapter in the original spirit of the Grugabad – a place of openness, in direct dialogue with the sky, the park, and the horizon.
We propose a respectful reinterpretation of the existing structure, while clearly asserting a contemporary architectural language. Special attention is paid to environmental aspects – both in terms of energy efficiency and the choice of materials.
The first phase aims to breathe new life into the existing areas and improve access through a new entrance connected to public transportation. The second phase, still subject to political approval, involves the covering of one pool. This will preserve the horizontal nature of the site and its openness to the landscape and sky, while asserting a striking silhouette that expresses its new function architecturally.
