One of the latest sectors of the Seine Rive Gauche development zone to be urbanised extends the covering over the rail tracks but makes it necessary to design bridge-like buildings instead of slabs that can support other ad hoc projects. Here, 17,000 sq.m. of offices and shops span an area of railway tracks 56 metres wide with no intermediate supports. In addition to its obvious value in terms of opportunities for land use and urban continuity, the project proposes an innovative vision of the workspace.

The initial constraint relating to the act of crossing the void made it necessary to develop a structure that turned out to be liberating in terms of modes of use. The structural autonomy afforded by the way the building is supported makes all kinds of options possible: setbacks, cantilevers, dual-height spaces, terraces, balconies, tunnels, etc., all of which form exterior or interior attributes suitable for a diverse range of situations and taking user comfort towards a sense of domesticity in the workplace. The spaces are so generous and unique that it’s hard to identify which floor is occupied by senior management: all the areas have the same high-quality look and feel, and all the workspaces overlook the city.
